Water Cooling Towers With Axial Fans (VDS Series)

VDS series towers that have vertical air dischage are built in 15 models within the capacity range of 17 - 950 kW.
GENERAL
Cooling of water in open type water cooling towers is accomplished by bringing the water and air in contact, in a cross flow arrangement in horizontal types and counter flow arrangement in vertical types.
Open circuit water cooling towers with axial fans are built in vertical, horizontal and V types. Tower consists of two parts; water distribution system, filling and droplet eliminators comprise the first part while water basin, filter and make-up system comprise the second part.
VDS series towers that have vertical air dischage are built in 15 models within the capacity range of 17 - 950 kW.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Tower body
Tower body is designed to provide maximum strength and rigidity during transportation. Specially shaped galvanized steel sheets are used in construction. On request, these sheets can be electrostatic powder coated.
Water basin
Water basin is made of sheet metal and is epoxy painted after production. On request, basin can be built of galvanized sheet metal. In cases where the tower is to be installed on top of a concrete water basin, tower can be built and delivered without a basin. Basin is equipped with a filter, water make-up float, overflow and drain connections.
Baseframe
Baseframe made of NPU profiles provides rigidity for the tower during transportation and handling.
Filling
Filling material made of PVC provides maximum contact of water and air. Filling material gives minimum amount of resistance to air flow. Filling material is capable of withstanding temperatures of around 50 - 55ºC. For higher temperature applications, spiral type filling material is used.
Water distribution system
Even distribution of water over the filling is provided by the plastic nozzles attached to the underside of the upper water basin.
Droplet eliminator
Droplet eliminators that are made of PVC are installed in a multipass arrangement and thus keep the drift losses below 0,20 % of the total water flow.
Fan and motor
Statically and dynamically balanced axial fans with waterproof bearings are used. Motors are placed on top of the tower and are protected against the effects of outside air. Motors are totally enclosed type, IP55 protection class and drive the fan through v-belts.
Filter
Filter is made of galvanized steel and is installed on the discharge side of the basin, which is the suction side of the pump, thus protecting the pump from impurities.
Air inlet louvres
Air inlet louvres are made of overpainted galvanized steel and are installed on the air inlet side of the tower.
Inspection door
To enable cleaning of the water basin and filter and to allow adjustment of the float on make-up side, a water tight inspection door is provided.
APPLICATION
Towers should be installed so that the air inlet to tower is not obstructed. If walls are built around the tower, the tower height should not be lower than the wall height; otherwise, the discharged wet air from the tower will be sucked back into the tower and the tower efficiency will drop drastically.
If the tower is to installed indoors, air suction and discharge ducts must be installed. Static pressure drop in these ducts should not exceed 25 Pa. For higher pressure drops, special tower design is necessary.
In places where ambient temperature drops below freezing, there is no problem as long as the tower is operating under load. If the tower is stopped, the water in the basin should be drained for protection against freezing. If draining of water is not possible, a suitable capacity electric heater must be installed into the water basin. This electric heater should be automatically switched off when the system begins operating. Water cooled in the tower should be collected in a tank placed inside the building and should be pumped into the condensers fron this tank.
